In short
Open the HTML file in Annopane, then in Safari “Share” → “Add to Home Screen” (Android: Chrome menu → “Install app”). The file appears with its own icon, launches full screen and works offline. With “Publish as app” every file additionally gets its own address and icon for others.
The trick is called web app (PWA): a web page gets an icon, launches full screen and works offline. Annopane does that for every HTML file you upload – or publish.
Step by step
- 1
Open the file in Annopane
annopane.com → drop the file. It's stored locally on the device and therefore available offline too.
- 2
iPhone/iPad: Add to Home Screen
In Safari tap “Share” (square with arrow) → “Add to Home Screen” → check the name → “Add”. Annopane then launches without browser bars straight into your library.
- 3
Android: Install app
In Chrome open the menu (⋮) → “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”. Done.
- 4
A single file as its own app
With an account: file → “Publish as app” → choose name and icon (even from logos in the file). The file gets its own address; whoever opens it and chooses “Add to Home Screen” gets exactly that icon and name – not Annopane.
What happens technically
Annopane is a progressive web app: a service worker stores the app interface and your files in the browser, a manifest provides icon, name and full-screen mode. For published files Annopane generates its own manifest – that's why your report's name appears on the home screen, not ours.
Limits
iOS shows no install prompt for web apps; the path is always “Share → Add to Home Screen”. Push notifications for web apps on iOS are limited. And whoever clears Safari's history completely also removes locally stored files – cloud files remain.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the App Store or an Apple developer account?
No. Web apps are installed directly from the browser. No store, no review, no fees.
Does the app really work offline?
Yes. Files in device mode and recently opened cloud files are available offline; so is the app interface.
Can I choose the icon myself?
Yes – both for Annopane itself (Settings → App icon) and for every published file (own icon, even from logos in the file).
