Share Excel sheets and comment on cells – even without Excel

Sending an Excel file to five people means getting five modified copies back. With Annopane the file stays one, and the feedback hangs on the cells.

Last updated: November 1, 2026 · .xlsx, .xls, .csv

In short

Upload XLSX or CSV to Annopane. The sheet is displayed in the browser, recipients tap a cell and comment – the comment carries sheet name and cell address (e.g. “Budget!C14”).

The display recalculates nothing: values and formats are shown as Excel last saved them. That's intentional – nobody changes a formula by accident.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the file

XLSX, XLSM, XLS or CSV/TSV. Multiple sheets are shown as tabs.

  2. 2

    Share the link

Role “Comment”, optional password. Recipients need neither Excel nor an app.

  3. 3

    Comment on cells

Comment mode on, tap a cell, write. The list shows “Sheet!Cell” – unambiguous for you and for Claude.

What works

  • Cell-precise comments with sheet name and address
  • Number formats, merged cells and frozen rows are respected
  • CSV/TSV with automatic delimiter detection
  • Large sheets are processed in the background (web worker)
  • Export comments as a list or prompt

What doesn't (yet)

  • No recalculation, no editing – display only, with comments
  • Charts, pivot tables and macros are not rendered

Typical uses

  • · Budget or forecast for alignment with the team
  • · KPI table for monthly reporting
  • · Have a data delivery checked (“row 230 is wrong”)

Frequently asked questions

Can the recipient change values?

No. The sheet is read-only; changes are suggested as comments.

Are formulas shown?

The values last calculated in Excel are shown. Formulas themselves are not visible.

How big can the file be?

100 MB with an account. Very wide sheets with tens of thousands of rows load noticeably longer on a phone.

What about charts?

Excel charts are not rendered. Tip: have Claude generate the dashboard as HTML – that stays interactive.
